Forest Charter School provides one free nutritionally adequate breakfast for all students on each day they are scheduled for on campus activities lasting two or more hours.
For the 2024-25 school year, we are working with local distributors to offer a wider variety of breakfast items. The California Universal Meal Mandate requires that each school breakfast consist of one serving whole grain, one serving fruit (fresh or dried, OR vegetable), and one serving milk. We will be offering items such as breakfast bars, cereal, granola, fruit leather, applesauce, and Horizon organic milk (items may vary depending on supply chain).
Breakfast is offered at each learning center on days when students are scheduled for educational activities (see your local learning center for specific time), and is available at the front desk of each learning center throughout the day if needed.
Forest Charter School is a nonclassroom based school, and meets EdCode 49501.5 under the exceptions outlined in EdCode sections 47613.5 and 49552 as outlined in the Universal Meals Mandate Implementation Guidelines Handbook, published by the California Department of Education.
“Nonclassroom-based charter schools are only required to offer one nutritionally adequate breakfast or one nutritionally adequate lunch to needy pupils at no charge on days when pupils are scheduled for educational activities at a school site, resource center, or other satellite facility operated by the nonclassroom-based charter school lasting two or more hours (EC sections 47613.5 and 49552).”
